Preventing Symptoms Of Jet Leg

Calculate the time difference between where you live and the time at your destination.
If possible change your home schedule to the destination schedule. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time as you would in the time zone of your destination. This is the hardest and most time consuming method but therefore the most affective.

Take plenty of rest before travel. Rest prepares the body for the shock of the disruption of the body clock.
Before flying do not get exhausted and don’t exercise with full stomach.

Drink water before departing, in the flight and after arriving. Dehydration makes jet lag worse. Avoid caffeine and other stimulants as they dehydrate the body. Drinking water is one of the best jet lag remedies.
IMPORTANT: Drink a balanced amount of water and not “plenty” as often advised. If planning to sleep onboard the airplane a fully stretched bladder will not make that rest effective.

Before going for a trip, you take vitamins A, C, and E which will help you in protecting against free radical damage caused by radiation during the flight.

Take a high carbohydrate meal as it helps in getting good sleep in the flight. If you want to be alert and active, eat a high protein meal. Avoid heavy meals. Light fresh meals will help you reset with greater ease.

Do not skip going to the toilet during long flights. A full colon causes discomfort preventing to get proper rest.

You should not drink alcohol before travel or while traveling as it makes the jet lag symptoms worse. Avoid using sleeping pills as they stimulate, dehydrate and makes you addicted. Take eye masks, neck rests, and slippers to use it in the plane to make yourself comfortable in the flight.
You can listen to calm and soothing music using earphones as you will not be disturbed with other sounds.

In daytime flights, it is better to stay awake and keep mentally active. Wear comfortable clothing in the plane which allows you to move freely.

Try to walk in the plane and exercise your limbs and muscles. As you will sit continuously in one place, you may feel stressed and uncomfortable. By walking, your muscles will be stretched and blood circulation will increase.

Melatonin is one of the jet lag remedies. You can use Melatonin in correct dosage by consulting your doctor, to reduce jet lag. Inadequate amounts of melatonin worsen your jet lag. Melatonin is not a sleeping pill.
